What to Say When Handing Out Tracts

10 Easy Places To Leave Gospel Tracts

This post contains affiliate links. Full disclosure here.

Do you want to share the gospel, but you're so shy you don't know what to say or where to start? Then gospel tracts are your new best friend!

These little gems have also been called 'silent preachers' and 'paper missionaries' due to their ability to tell the reader about the gospel silently, one-on-one, and because sometimes they are read a considerable amount of time after they've been given!

Charles Spurgeon once said:
"When preaching and private talk are not available, you need to have a tract ready . . . Get good striking tracts, or none at all. But a touching gospel tract may be the seed of eternal life. Therefore, do not go out without your tracts."

So how can you get started giving out gospel tracts to share the gospel with those around you?

Well, if the idea of directly handing one to someone seems terrifying right now, you can still do something while you work on overcoming your fears.

Here are 10 easy places you can leave a gospel tract…

1. BUS / TRAIN / TAXI

Before my husband and I got our car on the road, we used a lot of taxis and buses (and a few trains) to get to wherever we were going.

It's so easy to leave a gospel or a tract on the backseat of the taxi (or tucked into the seat pocket in front, if there is one) or on your bus or train seat when you're leaving it.

Bravery Bonus:

Hand a pocket gospel, tract or Bible to the driver as you thank him/her as you leave.

2. WAITING ROOM TABLE / MAGAZINE RACK

Whether you're waiting to see a doctor, dentist, banker, lawyer or someone else, it's easy to pick up a newspaper or magazine, flick through it and set it back down with a pocket gospel or tract on it (or even tucked inside of it).

Bravery Bonus:

Give a pocket gospel or tract to the person you're waiting to see, at the end of your appointment.

3. SIDEWALK

The wallet tracts that Living Waters publish were specially designed for this, but you could do it with their money tracts or any other tract, too.

Just have some in your pocket and drop one every now and again as you walk down the street, praying that the Lord will direct people to pick them up.

Bravery Bonus:

Stand on the street for 15 minutes and give out pocket gospels or tracts to people passing by. (This is one of my favorite things to do!)

4. POCKET OF CLOTHING IN A STORE

You can slip a tract into a jacket or trouser pocket whilst looking through the clothes in the store, or take a few items into the changing rooms and slip a tract or gospel into the pockets before you put the clothes back on the shelves!

Bravery Bonus:

Hand a pocket gospel or tract to the cashier after you've paid for your purchase.

5. CAFE / RESTAURANT

This is incredibly easy! Just leave a tract or gospel on the table, or on the little dish underneath your tip when you're leaving a cafe or restaurant.

Bravery Bonus:

Give a pocket gospel or tract to your waiter/waitress when they're serving you the last portion of your meal, and thank them for their care and attention.

So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)

6. PRE-PAID ENVELOPES

I always gather up a stack of pre-paid business reply envelopes (usually included in catalogs, promotional letters, etc.), put a tract inside them, and mail them!

After all, the stamp has already been paid for and each envelope will be opened by a staff member who needs to hear about Jesus.

Bravery Bonus:

Write a personal note to the staff member saying something like, "You probably weren't expecting to find this inside the envelope, but I just wanted to let you know who Jesus is and what He did for you. I'm praying that you will know and love Him as He knows and loves you."

7. MAILBOX

Another really easy one – just pop a pocket gospel or tract into a mailbox you pass by on the sidewalk and pray that the mailman will read it when he collects the mail later that day.

Bravery Bonus:

Give a pocket gospel, tract or Bible to your mailman when he delivers your mail to your house and thank him for doing such a great job.

8. WEDDING FAVORS

My husband and I wanted our wedding's focus to be completely on Jesus – to glorify Him and to tell others about the price He paid to redeem us.

One method we came up with was, instead of giving out little trinkets on the dinner tables for the guests, we would give them the gospel!

So we gave everyone a little red paper bag (the color matched the bridesmaids' dresses!) with their name on a pretty label on the front. Inside we put The Biggest Question DVD, A New Beginning booklet, and a few "Just Married" candies.

Bravery Bonus:

Send a pocket gospel or tract with each wedding thank you card you send out.

9. LIBRARY

Whether you're browsing books in the library or returning library books that you've borrowed, it's so easy to slip a tract in between the pages to be found by the person who picks it up next!

Bravery Bonus:

Give a pocket gospel or tract to the librarian when you're checking out or returning books.

10. PUBLIC RESTROOM

This is probably the easiest place for nervous evangelists to leave a gospel tract – there's so much privacy! And so many options – you could place a tract in a public restroom in a hotel, mall, cafe, restaurant, library – anywhere!

Have some tracts ready in your pocket or purse and leave them on top of the back of the toilet or on a shelf or ledge if there is one.

Bravery Bonus:

Put one in each (empty!) cubicle and a few by the sinks (where they won't get blown away by the hand dryers!).

READY?

Even if you think you're too shy, I promise – you can do this.

It's so easy to leave a gospel tract somewhere and the more you do it, the easier it gets. You just need to take the first step.

Remember – you never know who'll read it and how it will impact their eternity.

By faithfully placing a gospel tract in a restroom or on a restaurant table, you could end up being the instrument that God uses to bring them to salvation.

What an honor! So, what are you waiting for?

Pray and go!
